Certain liquid filling machines must be used in a hazardous location, or in a split production area, which includes a hazardous location and a safe location.  These filling machines not only require special construction of the filling machine itself, but special supplementary equipment for sensors that count the containers moving in and out of the filler.  Sensors are also used on the liquid fillers to prevent back up and container jams on a complete packaging system.

When a hazardous location requires special electronic construction or remote PLC's, intrinsically safe sensors and/or junction boxes are used for the filler vision system.  In general, the "intrinisically safe" sensors , junction boxes and remote PLC's remove the possibility of spark from the electronics causing damage in the filling and packaging area.
