"Complete Packaging System" Means Something Different to Every Packager

At Liquid Packaging Solutions, we often refer to the fact that we offer complete packaging systems, which is a fairly general statement, but for a reason. No single complete packaging system exists that will work for each and every product that is packaged! Instead, a complete packaging system will be tailored to meet the specific needs and desires of the packaging project at hand.

There are certain aspects of packaging that will almost always be present in a project. With rare exceptions, most packaging projects will require that the container be filled with product, sealed or capped in some way, and labeled to inform consumers about the project. So, with exceptions, the core of most packaging systems will include filling, capping and labeling. From here, the actual machinery used on a complete packaging system can vary greatly. For example, some systems may use container cleaning equipment to remove dust, dirt and other debris from inside containers prior to filling them with product. The inclusion of this machinery may be a necessity if product is ingested and contamination could be dangerous, or it may simply be desired by the packager if storage or transportation leads to dirty bottles or other containers.

Other projects may automate their packing process as well. For example, individual products may be bundled into groups or placed in cartons. Some companies may even pack products in boxes using automated equipment as well as palletize and wrap pallets using packaging machinery. On the other end of the line, companies may use bottle unscramblers, turntables or loading conveyors to help place containers on the line and begin the packaging process.

In addition to the different pieces of equipment, each machine will typically have different levels of automation. Taking a simple fill, cap and label line, a company with a high production demand may use automatic machinery at each of the three stages. However, packagers with lower output may use semi-automatic machinery for all three stages or some combination of automatic and semi-automatic equipment. As production demands increase, the definition of a complete packaging system may also change for some packagers. Those starting with a complete packaging system made up of semi-automatic equipment may upgrade one or more machines as necessary to keep up with demand.

Whether made up of three machines or ten machines, whether semi-automatic or automatic, each system will be a "complete" solution when the specific packaging needs of the business are met by the equipment.
