Is Container Cleaning Equipment a Necessity on My Packaging System?

Many packaging lines will include container cleaning equipment - rinsing machines and bottle washers - just prior to the filling process.  The rinsing machines are used to rid glass and plastic bottles of debris that may build up in the containers in the manufacturing process, through delivery of the containers or even during the storage of the containers.  But does every packaging line require some type of container cleaning equipment?

The answer to that question really comes down to the products being packaged and their use once purchased.  Certain products, mostly in the Food and Beverage Industry and the Pharmaceutical Industry, will require container cleaning equipment.  These products are ingested or consumed by the end user, and contamination can have dire results.  Imagine bottled water full of dust and debris, or medication that is not pure due to the build up of contaminants.  Rinsing machines are used for consumable products to help to ensure the purity of the product.  Some of these rinsing machines will invert bottles over a rinse basin and use air, water or other solution to wash away dust, debris and other particles.  Other container cleaning machines will use dual action nozzles to first free debris with a blast of air before vacuuming up particles to clean the bottles.

So what about products outside of the Food and Beverage and Pharmaceutical Industries?  For other industries, the need for a rinsing machine can be determined on a case-by-case basis.  For instance, certain packagers want their products to remain pure, such as chemicals and even bath and body washes.  Certain chemicals may be diluted by debris or particles, lessening the effectiveness of the product.  Still other products, such as soap, may be marketed as "pure" products, and rinsing machinery may simply be used at the desire of the packager.

Put simply, some products will almost always require a rinsing machine on their packaging line.  For other products, a rinsing machine may simply be desired, and still other products can safely be packaged without the need for container cleaning equipment.  If you have questions regarding bottle rinsing or container cleaning equipment, feel free to contact a Packaging Specialist at Liquid Packaging Solutions, Inc.  Our reps can be reached toll free at 1-888-393-3693.
