Spirits Industry Continues Growth in 2014
Distilled spirits gained market share in the beverage alcohol market again in 2014, continuing a growth trend that has lasted several years now, according to an article in Fortune by John Kell. While this will not come as a surprise to those in the industry, working with the industry or even those enjoying the variety of products offered by the industry, others that expected distilled spirits to be a short lived fad in the United States are going to have to second guess their prediction.
In 2014, market share for spirits came mostly at the expense of beer for a multitude of reasons. The reach of distilled spirits has stretched to include bars, athletic stadiums and other venues historically dominated by beer. In addition, legislation allowing for Sunday sales and authorizing spirit tastings have also expanded this reach. At Liquid Packaging Solutions, we also believe a variety of flavors and the availability of locally distilled products has helped push the industry forward.
In the past four to five years, we have seen the growth of the industry first hand as we have designed and manufactured packaging machinery for a multitude of distillers both large and small. From mass producers using complete and automatic turnkey packaging lines to local and regional distillers using simple tabletop fillers and cappers to produce product, this industry makes up the largest percentage of growth in our family of customers over the last half decade as well. In addition to all of the factors set out above, our experience at LPS has shown us that the distilled spirits industry also keeps growing because of the quality products produced and the fact that the packagers are enjoying what they are doing while finding unique ways to do it. From flavors and different combinations of ingredients to unique bottles and marketing, it is not just the products that have a unique quality, but the distillers and their stories as well, some with pre-prohibition roots.
As we stated last year to contradict some predictions about the industry, we see nothing but growth for distilled spirits in the near future. Liquid Packaging Solutions is also excited to participate in the 2015 Annual Spirits Conference & Vendor Expo from March 30th to April 2nd this year in Louisville, Kentucky. LPS will be located in Booth 514 for the Expo and will showcase both a filling and rinsing machine for attendees. Packaging Specialists will also be available to answer any questions about preparing distilled spirits for the shelf. We look forward to seeing those with whom we have already worked as well as meeting some new distillers and hearing some new stories!
If you will be attending the Expo this year and would like to set up a time to speak with a representative from LPS, feel free to call us toll free at 1-888-393-3693 to set up an appointment time.
