Specific Conveyor Types for My Packaging Line?

Why Do I Need a Specific Type of Conveyor System for My Packaging Line?

Automatic Power Conveyor Systems can be manufactured using a number of different designs and several different construction materials.  Does this mean only certain types of power conveyors will move your product from one packaging machine to the next?  Not exactly.  The truth is, almost any of the conveyor designs - low profile conveyors, sanitary style conveyors and others - will move most products from point A to point B on a packaging system.  However, the nuances found on the different conveyor styles can add efficiency and productivity to the entire packaging line based on the needs of the company and the product itself.

While moving bottles or other containers through rinsing machines to liquid fillers and on to capping machines and other packaging equipment is the primary goal of an automatic conveyor system, analyzing your entire packaging process will help to maximize the usefulness of your conveyor system.  For example, if space is an issue on your production floor, low profile conveyors may be a good choice.  Low profile, in general terms, is referring to the short distance between the bottom belt frame and the top of the conveyor belt as well as the edges of the conveyor belt and conveyor frame.  The compact design saves space on the production floor and allows almost any packaging machine to roll up to the conveyor and become a part of the packaging system.

Sanitary-style conveyors from Liquid Packaging Solutions are designed with an upside down U-shape and a raised conveyor belt.  The advantage to this conveyor design is that it can allow for quick and easy washdown at the end of the production day or at the end of a product run.  In addition, sanitary-style conveyors make clean up of spills and other maintenance issues a simple chore, leading to less downtime and increased conveyor system productivity.

Other conveyor designs can add additional facets to your power conveyor system, like the safety of an enclosed chain on a C-frame conveyor or the flexibility of line layouts when using curved conveyor sections.  Custom conveyors systems can also be designed and manufactured where unique conveyor or packaging system issues come into play.  Not only do the individual characteristics of the conveyor designs add to the value and utility of the conveyor system, but the material used to fabricate the conveyors can do the same.

Different materials may offer different load capacities when comparing aluminum, stainless steel and plastic.  However, even beyond load capacity the material chosen can be helpful.  For example, plastic conveyor systems will almost always be used when a company is packaging products such as bleach, acid or other harsh liquids.  These chemicals may eat away at aluminum or stainless steel, shortening the life of the conveyor system and opening up the entire packaging line to production issues.  Keep in mind that an automatic packaging system becomes a semi-automatic or even manual packaging line when the conveyor system is not working.
